Carolyn's thoughts GOAL SETTING

"reasonable expectations spark productive experiences creating tranquility."
(friend)
YES when I work with clients- esp. student-athletes I have them make SMART GOALS
Specific
Measurable
Attainable (similar to key pts in article you sent)
Realistic
Timely
ANYONE needs to set goals that are specific to the place they are and relative to where they REALISTICALLY see themselves going in the short and long-term-micro and macro level goals.  GOALS set too high (and expectations too high) creates stress in many student-athletes and high achieving students- perfectionist...if you will....and goals should come from the PERSON not the parent, the CEO etc etc....suggestions from a mentor or elder is okay- but ultimately the person sets their own realistic and attainable goals. But realistic does involve WORK ETHIC- and sweat, effort, time management, smart choices, structure, vision, resources, motivation the list goes on and on- but basically BIO-Psycho-Social aspects of attaining goals :)....when recognized creates tranquility.

Pop and Sports News

SIDE to that is my extreme disappointment if Chris Brown (singer) is found guilty of his alleged domestic violence. It could be he is trying to avoid allegations that are beyond scope of valid truth-who knows- but LAPD will reveal-- bottom line is KIDS need GOOD role models and Chris B. and Rihanna are in spot light- so they should set a good standard :).   AND ..! A-Rod and his steroid usage- SO VERY disappointing- how could anyone ever think that is okay. Hard training, eating right, getting ample rest will allow someone to reach their full potential- nothing in a pill or box can replace work ethic and nutrition/training/rest equation! Structure creates success- there are no shortcuts to this formula!!!   WOW. so sad...

Carolyn's Views on Today's News

As you watch how Obama is addressing the economic crisis- TAKE into consideration the cost of lifestyle related diseases and health-care as related to your long-term economic well-being. Prevention over Prescriptions and lifestyle management (nutrition, exercise skills) WILL save you from tremendous financial and emotional costs down the road! Right now- lifestyle related diseases account for $100 Billion and 9% of all medical costs in U.S. is linked to obesity.  The average cost per individual is $13,000 per yr  per person by 2012 for those who develop type II diabetes (which is asymptomatic and highly influenced by your nutrition and exercise habits!)
